Timothy Olyphant’s latest movie has found an unexpected second life on streaming.

Timothy Olyphant has built a career as one of Hollywood’s most dependable genre stars. Best known for playing Raylan Givens in Hulu’s Justified and Seth Bullock in Deadwood, he has also appeared in films such as Scream 2, Live Free or Die Hard, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Alien: Earth.

His latest project, the R-rated dark comedy thriller Over Your Dead Body, is now finding an audience on premium video-on-demand. According to FlixPatrol, the film currently ranks No. 4 on the U.S. Apple TV Store chart, behind only Project Hail Mary, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Hoppers, marking a significant streaming resurgence for the recently released thriller.

An English-language remake of the acclaimed Norwegian thriller The Trip, Over Your Dead Body is directed by Jorma Taccone and stars Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as a deeply dysfunctional married couple who retreat to a remote cabin while secretly plotting to kill one another.

In Over Your Dead Body, the couple’s deadly plans quickly spiral out of control when a group of dangerous criminals unexpectedly arrives, turning the getaway into a chaotic fight for survival. While Segel and Weaving lead the film, Olyphant plays one of the escaped convicts who crashes the couple’s weekend retreat. The actor is joined by Juliette Lewis, Keith Jardine, and Paul Guilfoyle.

The film hit theaters in April 2026, generating significant attention among genre fans during its rollout thanks to its over-the-top violence and unusual blend of comedy, thriller, and horror elements. Critics frequently highlighted its willingness to embrace absurdity, with many praising the chemistry between Segel and Weaving as well as the film’s increasingly chaotic escalation. Over Your Dead Body currently holds a 66% critics score and a 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, despite attracting positive reactions from many horror and dark comedy fans, Over Your Dead Body struggled to become a major box office breakout. Instead, it appears to be following a growing trend in which mid-budget genre movies find their largest audience after reaching premium video-on-demand platforms.

This appears to be benefiting Over Your Dead Body. The film’s combination of dark comedy, graphic violence, and thriller elements might be the cause of why it struggled to find a wide audience during its theatrical release, but those same qualities have helped it stand out among genre fans looking for something different from traditional studio releases.

While Over Your Dead Body may not have become one of 2026’s biggest theatrical hits, its climb to No. 4 on the Apple TV Store chart shows that the film is finding a new life outside of cinemas, proving that streaming success can sometimes be just as important as box office performance.

For Olyphant, Segel, Weaving, and the rest of the cast, the film’s resurgence is evidence that audiences are still eager for original, R-rated genre entertainment when given the chance to find it on their own terms.
