The Tuscan mom aesthetic started where many modern trends do—that’d be on TikTok—with users reflecting fondly on the Tuscan-style kitchens of the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s. Then, people began imagining what the lady of the house was wearing.
The Tuscan mom shares some important fashion DNA with the flashy, look-at-me vibes of the late 2000s, though it’s important to note that they are not identical. Many people cite Eva Longoria’s character Gabrielle Solis from Desperate Housewives as the ultimate Tuscan mom, what with her wardrobe of low-rise flares, silky halter tops, and high platform heels. It’s OK, even encouraged, to be a little flashy here.

The key to nailing the Tuscan mom aesthetic is to incorporate lots of texture and warmth into your outfit, but there are plenty of ways to do this. Think animal print—particularly snake and zebra prints—or embellished and embroidered denim and tops. Color-wise, stick to neutrals like brown, beige, rust, and tan, as well as purple, pink, and red or orange. Silk, satin, and denim are hallmarks of the Tuscan mom aesthetic, as are halter tops, chunky jewelry, and shoulder bags, especially designer logo bags! Shoe-wise, you want height, so look for platform sandals and wedges. (Bonus points if they’re jeweled wedges!) Luckily for you, many of the pieces that make up the Tuscan mom look are readily available at your local thrift store or secondhand store—or if you’re really lucky, in your very own mom’s closet!

Embellished Denim
A pair of medium or light-wash flare jeans is essential to the Tuscan mom look, and the lower the rise, the better. Embroidery or embellishment on the pant legs or pockets is also a must have. Consider these the foundation of all your Tuscan mom outfits.
