Tom Hardy fans are buzzing after the recent news that his Oscar-winning Western is coming back to theaters, but audiences refuse to let go of his most recent action thriller on streaming. Last year, Hardy starred alongside Jessie Meia Li and Justin Cornwell in the Netflix original action thriller, Havoc. The film began streaming on April 25 last year, and although it’s approaching one full year since its release, it’s still in the Netflix global top 10 in several countries worldwide. It follows a grizzled detective who must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s son.
Havoc received a lukewarm reception from critics, earning a 64% rating on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. This also comes from over 100 reviews, so it’s a large enough sample size to be considered a credible representation of the film’s critical reception. Havoc was not a fan favorite by any means, though. The film earned a Rotten 35% from fans on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, which falls in the lower half of Hardy’s filmography. Netflix reportedly spent around $90 million on the production of Havoc, which was somewhat troubled with reshoots and delays.
Gareth Evans wrote the script for Havoc, and he also stepped behind the camera to direct the film. Evans is best known for his work on the popular British series Gangs of London, and he also directed other films such as Apostle (2018) and The Raid 2 (2014). Xelia Mendes-Jones, who is best known for their role as Dane in Fallout, also has a role in Havoc. They’re also famous for playing Renna in the Prime Video series, The Wheel of Time.
Tom Hardy’s ‘MobLand’ Is Coming Back to Paramount+
Tom Hardy is hard at work right now filming the sophomore season of MobLand, his hit crime thriller with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. MobLand was one of Paramount’s biggest hits last year, but it took the streamer a while to renew the show for a second season. Guy Ritchie directed several episodes of MobLand Season 1, and he’s expected back in the director’s chair for at least one episode of Season 2. The show does not yet have an official release date for Season 2, but it will likely be released sometime next year.
Be sure to check out Havoc on Netflix and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
