You won’t find Minionese on Duolingo – at least not yet – but the Minion language is on everyone’s tongue these days following the release of the franchise’s latest film, “Minions & Monsters.”
It was only fitting to ask the stars of the movie if they had picked up any Minionese skills when I caught up with them Sunday at the film’s world premiere in Hollywood.

“Minions & Monsters,” the seventh film in the franchise, sees the Minions becoming movie stars in 1920s Hollywood as they team up with Dort, an alien voiced by Eisenberg. Deutch plays Debbie, a suffragette who befriends Dort and the Minions. Bridges and Bobby Moynihan take on the roles of studio mogul brothers while franchise veteran Janney plays Olvia, a museum guide who narrates the movie.
“Lost my fucking mind,” Deutch told me about getting the offer to be in the movie. “I’ve been a fan of the franchise…for so long. It’s quite fascinating. It transcends language. The idea that it resonates with so many people, and it’s globally beloved, we don’t speak this language but we will all understand it. They’re so cute. They’re so funny. I’m obsessed with them.”
Bridges described working on the movie as an “extension” of kids play. “You’re over at the cool kids house and getting all the cool toys and playing,” the Oscar winner said.
“Minions & Monsters” is in theaters now.
