Benji Madden may be best known as a member of Good Charlotte, but in recent years, he’s also been in the spotlight as Cameron Diaz’s husband and the father of their three children. The couple, who married in 2015, have since welcomed daughter Raddix, son Cardinal, and their youngest, Nautas, while keeping much of their family life private. As Cameron returns to acting and Benji continues his work in music and production, here are five things to know about him.

He Co-Founded Good Charlotte With His Twin Brother

Benji and his identical twin brother, Joel Madden, co-founded the band Good Charlotte in 1996 in Maryland. The group rose to mainstream success in the early 2000s with hits like “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous,” “The Anthem,” and “Girls & Boys,” largely from their breakthrough album The Young and the Hopeless.

The band became a defining pop-punk act of the era, with Benji serving as guitarist and backing vocalist while also contributing to songwriting and production.

He’s Written and Produced Music for Other Artists

Beyond his work with Good Charlotte, Benji has built a career as a songwriter and producer for other artists. He co-wrote and produced songs for Hilary Duff’s 2005 compilation album Most Wanted, including “Wake Up” and “Break My Heart.”

He has also worked with bands like 5 Seconds of Summer, contributing to tracks such as “Amnesia,” and collaborated with All Time Low, among others. Over the years, Madden has expanded his role in the music industry through writing, producing, and mentoring newer artists.

He’s Appeared as a Coach on The Voice Australia

He was a coach/judge during the 2015-2016 season, as well as working with The Voice: Kids that same year. He judged with his brother Joel, as well as Seal and Keith Urban on the panel.

He Married Cameron Diaz After a Whirlwind Romance

The couple began dating in May of 2014 and became engaged just before Christmas of that year. The pair then shocked pals with a surprise wedding on Jan. 5, 2015 at her home in Beverly Hills. In 2016, Cameron told Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show that, “The first thing I said when I first met my husband was, ‘He’s hot.’ How come I didn’t know this before? We had never been in the same circle.” She added that, “It was one of those things where everyone tells you, ‘You just know when you know.’ I was like, ‘What does that mean?’ Oh, I get it. You just know when you know. Like you’re my husband,” she said of Benji.

His Sister-in-Law Is Nicole Richie

Benji’s sister-in-law is Nicole Richie, who is married to his twin brother, Joel. The couple tied the knot in December 2010 and share two children together, daughter Harlow and son Sparrow—making Benji their uncle.
