You Can Now Watch Rocky From ‘Project Hail Mary’ Sleep With the Perfect Accompaniment

“Rocky sleep, you watch, question?” Yes, please and thank you, Rocky. Your friends at MGM have, delightfully, figured out a way for us to do that in the most perfect way imaginable. A new, two-plus-hour YouTube video was just uploaded that allows us to help our alien friend while listening to the entirety of Daniel Pemberton’s wonderful score to Project Hail Mary.

Four-hour Yule log with Christmas music; eat your heart out.

If you’re not quite grasping how a two-hour video of a rock creature lying on the ground sleeping is so cool, you probably haven’t seen Project Hail Mary yet. And you should remedy that right now. But, for those who have, here’s the ethereal, rousing score for the film, in full, as Rocky sleeps.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary is the story of teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace, played in the film by Ryan Gosling. Grace has been tasked with going further into space than any human has ever been to figure out why a mysterious creature is eating not just our Sun, but stars all across the galaxy. Along the way, he meets Rocky, a being from another world that’s experiencing the same problem. And so, once they figure out how to communicate, Rocky and Grace team up to save their respective stars.

One of the many unique traits about Rocky’s species is that they need to watch each other sleep for safety. So, Grace adopts that trait to help his new friend. And now, thanks to this video, we can do the same.

Really, though, the video is basically a very clever ploy to get people to buy the score on CD or vinyl or stream it on their favorite service, which you can do at those links. Or, of course, you could just listen on YouTube while Rocky sleeps. We think that’s the perfect way.

The 1993 samurai anime film Ninja Scroll is coming back with a limited theatrical run this fall.

Per IGN, Iconic Events and AMC are teaming for a re-release on October 4, 5, and 7. (At time of writing, it’s exclusively locked to North America.) The remastered version will play its original 35mm negatives in 4K using a process that “repairs any damage and [performs] color correction to create an archival-quality digital master of the film.”

Directed and written by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and created by Animate Film, Ninja Scroll tells the story of mercenary swordsman Kibagamei Jubei. Set in feudal Japan, Jubei is tasked with killing the Eight Devils of Kimon, supernatural ninjas aiming to take over the Tokugawa shogunate. Praised for its animation and action, the film was highly regarded when it came out and is considered a great contributor (alongside Akira and Ghost in the Shell) to adult anime’s popularity in the West. (That’s at least true for the Wachowskis, who cited the film as a big influence on The Matrix, and later brought on Kawajiri to direct and write two segments of The Animatrix.)

In the years since Ninja Scroll’s release, it’s become a bit of a franchise unto itself: it had a standalone sequel series in 2003 and a 12-issue miniseries in 2006 by J. Torres and Michael Chang Ting Yu.

Animation studio Madhouse announced a sequel in 2008 helmed by Kawajiri that stalled out, and that same year saw Warner Bros. announce a live-action movie that also didn’t go anywhere. (Oh, noooooo, that’s sooooooo sad.)

Tickets for the Ninja Scroll re-release will go on sale in the coming weeks.
