All Hail the Seven-step PDRN Routine

All Hail the Seven-step PDRN Routine

It’s only fitting that 10 years after K-beauty introduced the seven-step skin care routine to the Western beauty lexicon, the category is yet again responsible for beauty’s newest mass fixation.

Polydeoxyribonucleotide, or PDRN, a salmon sperm DNA extract known for its regenerative properties, has emerged as skin care’s latest “It” ingredient, making its way into everything from medical-grade treatments to topical serums and beyond.

Said to stimulate collagen and give skin a youthful boost, PDRN is something of a “turbo-charge repair kit” for skin cells, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Diane Alexander previously told WWD. The ingredient’s host of benefits also include anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and wound-healing properties.

While PDRN is traditionally extracted from salmon sperm, a slew of plant-based alternatives are more recently cropping up, extracting similarly skin-boosting DNA fragments from rice, rose and other vegan-friendly — and wallet-friendlier — sources.

So popular has the ingredient become that, should you wish, each step of your beauty regimen can be a PDRN step, including your…
