Wang allows another sneak peek of sorts:  ”There’s a certain classicism in the watches. That’s very important to me because as much as my fashion has been about the revolutionary and rebellious, it’s always been rooted in the total knowledge of dressmaking from the past. This is exactly what we’re trying to do with our watches. It may be a small item in terms of scale, but there’s so much detail.”

According to her, “God is in the details” of this upcoming launch, and the details are very much informed by jewelry. Does this mean artful bands, diamond-encrusted bezels, or something else entirely? At the end of the day, Wang knows how to keep a secret, so only time will tell (no pun intended).

From her iconic Olympic figure skating costume designs to Vera Wang wedding dresses worn by the likes of Victoria Beckham, the lauded designer has been in constant pursuit of the fresh and unexpected — fueled by sartorial choices like draping, airy fabrics, lingerie influences, and asymmetrical silhouettes. Ultimately, though, Wang continues to be loved and trusted by brides around the world due in no small part to how wearable each of her pieces is. It’s safe to assume Wang’s watches with Citizen will live up to the same standards: being easy to throw on alongside ensembles everyday and formal alike while blessing your wrist with something utterly exquisite.

“ I don’t think anything is too precious,” Wang replies when asked about how she hopes shoppers will integrate the Citizen Watch releases into their day-to-day. “ You should live with luxury. It should be part of your life, not something you only bring out once in a while. I feel the same way about my bone china and crystal. I feel that way about everything!”

In other words, once that glimmering object arrives to your door, use it — embracing the occasional aesthetic juxtaposition that a Citizen watch can create.  ”When I’m working out, I don’t wear watches, but then sometimes I wear a sport watch to a black tie [event]. That’s the kind of irony I hope this collection can inspire,” Wang says.

She was present for every step of the Vera Wang x Citizen selections’ development, weighing in on materials, case designs, and more, with insights backed by her decades of experience in womenswear. (Note that the unisex styles can also be worn by men.) Their through line? Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive tech, of course, which has completely done away with battery replacements by harnessing light sources both natural and artificial.
