Look Past The Lobby And Make A Novel Discovery

I work in a large five-floor bookstore. People drive in from all over to look at our extensive collection and sometimes attend book signings.

The entrance area of our store contains the checkouts, a small café, and a selection of non-book items, such as board games, playing cards, gift stationery, bookmarks, etc. It’s the only section of the store that doesn’t sell books.

An older couple wanders in, obviously just browsing. They look at a few of the novelty items and then sit down for a coffee and a cupcake. The wife looks behind a display of calendars and says:

Woman: “Oh, look, George! Back there! They also sell books! How quaint!”

Husband: “Ha! That’s stupid. Who sells books anymore! They’ll want to change that as soon as possible, or they’ll go out of business.”

I pointed out the four and a half other floors in the store containing nothing but books to them as I came by to take their empty plate. They left very quickly after that, having only half drunk their coffees.
