I’m in a store where the staff wears blue or black shirts. I’ve got on a red shirt and a black baseball cap: definitely not the uniform.
Random Lady: “Do you work here?”
Me: “No, Miss.”
Random Lady: *Clearly not listening* “Well, I’m looking for [item]. It wasn’t on the shelf. Can you check in the stock room for me?”
Me: “Uh, no. I still don’t work here.”
Random Lady: *Apparently only hearing the word ‘No’.* “What?! Don’t you tell me no!”
At that point, I just kept walking with my cart full of groceries.
Random Lady: “I’m going to tell your manager you ignored me! You’ll get fired!”
Me: “Okay, good luck with that. I still don’t work here, so I doubt you’ll find one, especially since you can’t even spot a real employee.”
Later, when I’m bagging my groceries, I catch a glimpse of her at the customer service desk, waving her arms around and raising her voice at someone. I couldn’t even tell if the person she’s talking to is a manager… or honestly, if they work there at all.
As I’m heading out, she suddenly points at me, yelling.
Random Lady: “THAT’S HIM! THAT’S THE EMPLOYEE! HE WAS SO RUDE TO ME!”
I just shout back over my shoulder as I walk out the door.
Me: “I STILL DON’T WORK HERE! THANKS FOR PLAYING!”
I guess I’ll never make Employee of the Month there.
