Ana de Armas & Oscar Winner Lead Spy Show Based on Novel Series

Ana de Armas and Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly are in negotiations to star in the upcoming spy series Safe Houses for Apple.

What do we know about Safe Houses?

According to a new report from Deadline, both de Armas and Connelly are in talks to star, with Homeland writer Gideon Raff also attached to the project as executive producer and showrunner. The eight-episode series will be based on the Dan Fesperman novel of the same name, which was published in 2018, and is the first in the Claire Saylor series of novels written by Fesperman.

The show will follow the story of “Sofia Jiménez (de Armas), a fugitive agent accused of the crime, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop (Connelly), his widow, as they each investigate the murder from opposite sides, unraveling a vast conspiracy that could upend the balance of global power,” according to Deadline’s logline of the series.

Feserpman, who previously worked at the Baltimore Sun as a reporter, has written over a dozen books. Outside of Safe Houses, the Claire Saylor series also comprises the 2021 novel The Cover Wife, and 2022’s Winter Work.

de Armas was most recently seen in 2025’s Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off film. She also starred in 2024’s Eden and 2023’s Ghosted, the latter of which was also an Apple production. She’s also set to star in in the upcoming film Sweat.

Connelly, who took home an Oscar in 2001 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in A Beautiful Mind, was most recently in 2023’s Bad Beahviour, as well as the ongoing Apple TV+ sci-fi series Dark Matter, which she currently stars in.
