Organisers postpone Imane Khelif’s April 23 Paris fight after shoulder injury <div id="content-body-70858479" itemprop="articleBody"><p>Olympic champion Imane Khelif injured her left shoulder while training over the weekend and was forced to postpone a professional fight scheduled for later this month in Paris.</p><p>Organisers said Monday that her April 23 fight at the iconic Salle Wagram in the French capital against German boxer Julia Igel was delayed to a date yet to be announced.</p><p>“This decision follows the injury sustained by Imane Khelif during a training session this weekend in Paris,” the organisers said in a statement.</p><p>A medical examination carried out Monday revealed “a painful syndrome in the left shoulder,” they said. “Due to the intensity of the biomechanical demands involved in high-level boxing, the medical team deemed the athlete’s condition temporarily incompatible with competition.”</p><p>The event was also set to feature two bouts for WBA titles and organisers decided to reschedule the entire evening.</p><p>“The health and physical integrity of our athletes remain our absolute priority. We wish Imane Khelif a speedy recovery. At an event of this level, including WBA championships, it was essential to guarantee optimal conditions for all participating boxers,” said former boxer Brahim Asloum, the promoter of the gala.</p><p>Tickets already purchased will be refunded, organisers added.</p><p>Khelif won the Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games amid international scrutiny on her and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting — another gold medal winner — and misconceptions over both boxers’ sex.</p><p>Both fighters were allowed to compete by the IOC after being disqualified from the 2023 world championships by the Russian-dominated International Boxing Association. The IBA claimed the women failed unspecified eligibility tests.</p><p>However, the IOC applied sex eligibility rules used in previous Olympics and said Khelif and Lin passed.</p><p>World Boxing took over as the sport’s governing body last year, and it implemented a sex eligibility policy last August requiring all fighters to take a one-time genetic test designed to identify the presence of a Y chromosome. Avika Gor hospitalised with Dengue after five days of high fever

On Friday, Milind shared a video on Instagram in which he revealed that Avika had been admitted the previous night. He also spoke about how she continued to fulfil her professional commitments despite suffering from a high fever.

He said, “Avika has been in the hospital since last night. She has had a fever of 103–104 degrees for the past five days. And guess what she did during those five days? She first went to a project where two days of shooting were still pending. She performed so well despite having a 104-degree fever that they managed to wrap up the shoot in just one day. Then she came back and got a two-day break. She spent the entire day in bed, taking medicines, unable to move or even eat properly. But because she had made a commitment, she travelled to Delhi with the same fever and shot an ad. She also got herself tested before that. When she returned to Mumbai, we checked the report and it showed dengue. I told her many times that the producers would understand and that we could postpone it, but she kept saying, ‘Someone will suffer a loss, someone’s time will be wasted, someone’s money will be lost. I don’t want that. I’ll do as much as I can.’”

Milind also spoke about Avika’s dedication towards her profession and her consideration for other people’s time and resources. “I have never understood where someone gets so much love for their work from. The amount of respect she has for her craft and the value she places on other people’s time and resources, I don’t think many people in this industry do that. Anyway, I request all of you to please keep her in your prayers. I am proud of you, Avika,” he said.
