EXCLUSIVE: Rimowa Names New CEO

Rimowa has named Beatrice Monguidi its next chief executive officer, effective June 1, WWD has learned.

Monguidi is a veteran of French luxury giant LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, with her most recent role president of EMEA at Louis Vuitton.

Her resume also includes 12 years at Fendi in Rome, and a year at Christian Dior Couture as men’s business unit director.

An internal announcement seen by WWD lauds Monguidi for her “distinguished career marked by deep product knowledge, sharp business acumen, extensive retail expertise, and a strong drive for operational excellence.”

During her two years as a zone president at Vuitton, “she has been recognized for her inspirational, people-centric leadership and her unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where talent is showcased and empowered. She firmly believes that collective intelligence is the ultimate driver of performance and long-term success,” the announcement said.

At Rimowa, she succeeds Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, who became chief commercial officer at Vuitton last March as part of a management shuffle that also included Tiffany & Co., another LVMH brand.

The French group has a reputation for grooming talents and promoting from within, and Vuitton, its largest brand, harbors an especially rich pool of high-caliber executives.

“I want to thank Beatrice for her strong contribution to Louis Vuitton,” said Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group and chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton.

“As a leader, she has shown a unique ability to gather and align teams around shared ambitions, in a very diverse and complex EMEA ecosystem. Her sense of the collective, and her dedication to developing talent, make her the ideal leader to drive Rimowa’s vision forward,” he added.

Monguidi joins one of the best performing companies within the group’s stable of more than 70 brands.

The German suitcase specialist, prized for its grooved aluminum and polycarbonate cases, has been adding products for everyday, urban mobility including backpacks, shoulder bags, eyewear and phone cases.

In reporting first-quarter results earlier this week, LVMH highlighted that Rimowa outperformed the average in its fashion and leather goods business unit.

A graduate of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, she started her career as a merchandising planner at Max Mara Group, going on to work in buying and merchandising roles at Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino, where her last role was as chief retail Europe and retail excellence officer.
