“Humans, they ask so much of you. It’s all perfect… until it’s not.” 🤖 Sony Pictures has revealed an official trailer for the sci-fi movie titled Klara and the Sun, a robot girl story from director Taika Waititi (who last made Next Goal Wins). It’s set for release in theaters nationwide starting in October this fall. Based on the 2021 bestselling novel from Nobel Prize-winner Kazuo Ishiguro and co-written and directed by Academy Award winner Taika Waititi, Klara and the Sun introduces audiences to Klara, an Artificial Friend (aka AF) who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. Yet another new AI movie about robots helping comfort humans. “I know the answers are out there. Please show me the way to heal this family.” A robo girl designed to prevent loneliness tries to save a heartbroken family of humans. Klara and the Sun stars Amy Adams, Mia Tharia, Simon Baker, Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi, Aran Murphy, plus Jenna Ortega as the primary robot Klara. This looks like an amusing and clever new sci-fi tale from Taika, playful yet emotionally resonant. Reminds me of Her at first glance more than other robot humanoid films recently.
Here’s the first official trailer for Taika Waititi’s sci-fi movie Klara and the Sun, from Sony’s YouTube:

From the book by Nobel Prize-winner Kazuo Ishiguro, Klara and the Sun introduces audiences to Klara (Jenna Ortega), an Artificial Friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home. When Klara meets Josie (Mia Tharia), each immediately senses a kindred spirit in the other. Josie also has a fraught relationship with her mother (Amy Adams) and they’ve suffered great loss, but Klara’s innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty begin to heal the family and bring light to Josie’s complicated world. Klara and the Sun is directed by Kiwi actor / writer / filmmaker Taika Waititi, director of the films Eagle vs Shark, Boy, What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Next Goal Wins, plus eps of “Time Bandits” series most recently. The script is written by Taika Waititi and Dahvi Waller. Based on the bestselling novel by Kazuo Ishiguro first published in 2021. Produced by David Heyman, Garrett Basch, Taika Waititi. Sony Pictures debuts Waititi’s Klara and the Sun movie in theaters nationwide starting October 23rd, 2026 in the fall. First impression? Look any good?
