HATE CRIMES? Charlotte Repeat Offender Arrested After Viral Videos Show Brutal Sidewalk Assaults on Random Women

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 32-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested Thursday after social media videos surfaced showing him allegedly attacking women in broad daylight on the streets of Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood.

Di-Quan Schafar Hunt was taken into custody by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on the evening of August 6 and faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Police say one of the videos matches a reported attack on July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard, near the Paper Skyscraper.

According to CMPD, Hunt allegedly punched a woman on the sidewalk as she walked with get-well balloons. The victim was knocked to the ground and transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. In a widely circulated aftermath clip, Hunt stands over the injured woman, pointing near her face and repeatedly demanding she say “Elijah my son” while ranting that “July 21st is the real issue.”

Additional videos linked to the same social media account appear to show Hunt chasing and confronting other women, including one instance in which he allegedly threatens to kill a woman while pursuing her on a sidewalk. Police confirmed they were already investigating the account containing multiple videos when officers responded to a related call on August 6.

Hunt was first taken to a medical facility for treatment before being transferred to Mecklenburg County custody. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities asking the public for any additional information.

Extensive Criminal History Raises Questions

Hunt is no stranger to the justice system. Court and booking records show a long string of arrests and charges in Mecklenburg County dating back years. These include a 2020 conviction for shooting into an occupied property, multiple assaults (including on a female), weapons charges, communicating threats, domestic violence protective order violations, breaking and entering, injury to personal property, resisting a public officer, malicious conduct by a prisoner, and various probation and contempt issues.

In 2025 alone, he faced bookings for offenses including disorderly conduct, simple assault, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree trespass, and assault on a female. Critics and online commentators have pointed to his repeated releases as another example of a system that too often allows dangerous individuals back onto the streets.

Local reporting and public records describe the July 30 attack as unprovoked. No prior relationship between Hunt and the primary victim has been reported. The woman remains unidentified publicly, and further details on her recovery have not been released.

The case has sparked intense discussion online, with many questioning how a man with this level of prior contact with law enforcement was free to film and post alleged attacks. CMPD has not commented on specific prior case outcomes but stressed that the current investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the July 30 assault or related incidents is urged to contact CrimeStoppers.

This is a developing story.
