I’m ditching the evils of screen time today and spending the afternoon in nature at the botanical gardens. Speaking of which, have you tried the PictureThis app? It’s marvelous for plant identification. Although the sun is making it hard to see the screen, so I’m heading back inside.

It’s not just people who are getting stupid from smartphones. Cats that watch videos of birds are more likely to get feline dementia than cats who go outside and see real birds. It’s true. I learned all about it on my cat owners’ Facebook group, Pawcrastinating Pawrents.

It’s such a nuisance how nowadays people are always holding up their phones to film concerts. There were so many phones in the air at the Stones concert last night, I couldn’t get a decent video of Mick with my iPad.

You up? Sending you this podcast episode. It’s about a third grade teacher who took all the phones away from her students at 9 A.M. By 1 P.M. the class had staged a full production of Hamlet. Amazing what we can do without this damn technology!! Check out this adorable TikTok of the kids’ performance.

Oof, just spent three hours on the phone with Apple tech support. Never again am I going to waste a beautiful morning inside trying to get ahold of some expert just to find out why my phone isn’t showing me my screen time report.

I was getting eye strain from using the phone, so I took a free online eye exam and I am ordering their recommended turmeric supplements.

Turns out I had more than just eye strain. I needed to get cataracts surgery. Here’s an article about screen time and cataracts. Tldr (which I learned means “too long don’t read”): The more you use your smartphone, the earlier you develop cataracts. Anyway, now that I’ve had the surgery, I can see the details in all the emojis so much clearer.

Bad news—I’ve developed a repetitive stress injury from all this texting, so it’s gonna be a while before I can do much of anything that requires my fingers, like cooking or driving. Good news—there’s always Doordash and Uber.
