IPL 2026: Support in Chennai has been phenomenal, says Chennai Super Kings’ latest hero Jamie Overton After six consecutive losses at home, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to break the streak with a 23-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) last week.
All-rounder Jamie Overton’s four-wicket haul was instrumental in restricting DC to 189 in a 213-run chase.
Talking to the media ahead of the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Overton was all praise for the Chennai crowd.
“Chennai is a fabulous place to come and play. The support we get is phenomenal, and it was nice to finally get a win this season. Hopefully we go on a run from here,” he said.
Overton found success bowling hard lengths. All four of his wickets came from bowling length or back-of-length deliveries. The key to his success comes down to adaptability, he says.
“Hitting the hard lengths is sort of my natural stuff to do. Last game that’s what worked, but sometimes we’ve got to adapt to the wickets and analyse what suits a certain wicket,” the 32-year-old said.
“In the past I’ve bowled a bit short, but I’ve just realised what works and what doesn’t. I’m also trying to bowl a bit fuller to bring the batsman forward, as the wickets are so good nowadays. So, I’m trying to stick with that process,” he added.
Like CSK, KKR has also had an underwhelming start to the season, sitting 10th on the points table. One contributing factor is the big names not delivering with the bat.

With 298 runs in eight innings, at an average and strike rate of 49.67 and 200, respectively, Finn Allen had a stupendous outing in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
However, the opening batter has been unable to carry on the momentum into this IPL season for KKR, managing just 80 runs in four innings.
“It has been only a couple of games into the tournament, and I don’t think you can judge too much of it. I had good starts in the first two games. Obviously, I would’ve liked to kick on more, but hopefully it’s just around the corner,” he said.
On the flip side, CSK opener Sanju Samson is coming into the fixture in red-hot form on the back of a game-defining century against DC. Asked about the plans against him, Allen, with a smile, said, “Thankfully, I don’t have to bowl to him. So, it’s not too much of my concern.”

With the 2026 World Cup about a month away, we now have a chance to do just that. Yesterday, SB Nation collaborated with Vox Creative and Roku to release Soccer Meets America, a 3-part docuseries that focuses on the rise of soccer in the United States.Soccer Meets America focuses around the meteoric rise in popularity, from the North American Soccer League days of the 1970s and 1980s to the 1984 Olympics, leading up to the 1994 World Cup. At the center of that history was Alan Rothenberg, who served as soccer commissioner for the 1984 Olympics, the president of the U.S. Soccer Federation from 1990 to 1998, and the CEO of the 1994 World Cup. He also had a hand in the start of Major League Soccer, adding women’s soccer to the Olympic program in 1996, and bringing the 1999 Women’s World Cup to the United States.Rothenberg recently released a new book entitled The Big Bounce: The Surge that Shaped the Future of U.S. Soccer. In the book, Rothenberg gives an inside account at how American soccer went from the days where leagues were not organized and fizzled quickly to some of the success we have today with leagues like Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and the United Soccer Leagues. He details his firsthand knowledge of what it took for the United States to host a successful soccer tournament at the 1984 Olympics, how the nation won the bid to host the 1994 World Cup, and how he was able to organize the federation to get everything done and push the game forward.
