It’s Officially The End Of An Era For KPop Demon Hunters

Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters has been a massive hit, but it has now reached the end of an era, ending on a high note. Netflix has covered a variety of genres with its original content, ensuring that viewers of all ages will always find something suitable for them that also fits their taste. When it comes to animated content, Netflix has some notable movies that have made it to the list of the best movies of all time, such as Klaus and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

Now ranking among them is KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. KPop Demon Hunters is an animated fantasy movie that follows the K-Pop group Huntrix, formed by Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). Aside from being global pop sensations, the Huntrix girls are the current demon hunters, and they use their singing voices to create a magical barrier called the Honmoon to keep demons away. However, their mission becomes much more complicated with the arrival of boy band Saja Boys, who are demons in disguise.

KPop Demon Hunters was a huge hit with critics and general audiences, and to this day, it’s still on Netflix’s Top 10 of kids’ movies. KPop Demon Hunters was nominated for different awards, taking the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, among others. However, it’s now the end of an era for KPop Demon Hunters (for now, at least), and it’s all thanks to the real-life KPop group Twice.

Twice’s Tour End Wraps Up The KPop Demon Hunters Phenomenon

The KPop phenomenon in the real world is still strong, hence the existence of a movie like KPop Demon Hunters, so, of course, the movie has some popular real-life inspirations. The members of Huntrix were modeled after groups like Twice, 2NE1, Blackpink, and Itzy, with the former being part of the movie’s soundtrack. Twice performed two songs for KPop Demon Hunters, most notably “Takedown”, sang in the movie by Huntrix, and with Twice’s version playing during the end credits.

KPop Demon Hunters came out shortly before Twice’s This Is For World Tour began in July 2025, and for its 2026 dates, the group added “Takedown” to its setlist. Twice’s world tour is now nearing its end, and for its final date in London, Jihyo, Jeongyeon, and Chaeyoung were styled like Rumi, Zoey, and Mira. Twice’s This Is For World Tour will end in Seoul with three dates (July 10, July 11, and July 12).

KPop Demon Hunters and Twice did a lot of promo for each other when the movie came out and the tour began, and between the end of awards season (which, as mentioned above, was a great one for the movie) and the end of Twice’s tour, the KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon has wrapped, and it’s doing so on a high note… for now, as a sequel is in development.

When Will Kpop Demon Hunters 2 Be Released?

The ending of KPop Demon Hunters perfectly sets up a sequel, and after the movie’s massive success and cultural impact, it would have been surprising if it didn’t get a sequel or continuation of some kind. After a lot of speculation, a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters was confirmed, but with a projected release date of 2029, as the production team wants to give it the time it needs to maintain the quality of the first movie.

In February 2026, Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson suggested KPop Demon Hunters 2 might not be finished by 2029, with Kang later adding that the sequel will be larger in scale, so it’s very likely that Belson is right. At the time of writing, there haven’t been any more updates on the story, potential release date, and tone of KPop Demon Hunters 2, but I think it’s fair to say that it has the potential to be a cultural phenomenon just like the original movie, or even bigger.
