“My soul is cursed. My kin are cursed. My world is cursed.” Focus Features has unveiled the first full trailer for Robert Eggers’ next new horror movie titled Werwulf, an old English version of the classic Werewolf movie. Or maybe it’s VVervvulf? Two years ago he re-imagined the Dracula tale in his movie Nosferatu, now he re-imagines the Lycanthrope horror story as this new movie Werwulf. Set during 13th-century England, a mysterious creature stalks a foggy countryside transforming local folklore into terrifying reality as villagers face an ancient supernatural threat. Eggers’ “most visceral and haunting experience yet” is a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within. Werwulf stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the cursed farmer, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson, with Jack Morris, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Jan Bijvoet, and Ritchi Edwards. The dialogue is all in old Middle English and is Eggers’ “darkest script he has ever written.” With music by Robin Carolan, and cinematography by Eggers’ regular Jarin Blaschke (The Lighthouse, The Northman, Nosferatu). This is a very creepy, intensely stylized, vicious trailer with grainy shots galore. Not sure if this will work as well as his other movies, but definitely looks powerfully immersive.
