Next Major Spider-Man Release Teases New Villain That Will Reshape The Marvel Icon Forever

If it is anywhere even remotely in the ballpark of how epic it has been teased to be, Spider-Man’s status quo may be shifting in some peculiar ways following The Amazing Spider-Man #31/LGY #995 and The Amazing Spider-Man #36/LGY #1000. The former will feature a “family secret” that causes a narrative ripple effect, hence the latter’s milestone landmark, and will assuredly involve the fact that Peter Parker has a cousin he never knew about.

Being a little less than four months away, details are scarce about what the plot of The Amazing Spider-Man #1000 entails. However, what readers do know is that it will mark the debut of a villain whose powers may literally reshape the fabric of Spider-Man history and lore, and that alone is a fascinating strand of webbing to be tangled in.

Meet Ravage, Spider-Man’s Brand-New Villain

There is a long way to go before the questions readers have about Peter’s cousin are answered. Meanwhile, the solicitation for The Amazing Spider-Man #36/LGY #1000 has already been revealed, being grouped with the August solicitations for issues #34 and #35, and reads as follows:

Spider-Man faces his greatest fear and his most frightening new villain in decades. Who is this Ravage? And how will his history-shattering power force Peter to question his very legacy? It’s one of Spider-Man’s most personal battles to date, and one that will shape his path for the next 1,000 issues!

With any likelihood, considering the convenience of this cousin only appearing in the book now after 60 years, Peter’s mysterious and heretofore unheard of cousin, named Cormac Crane, is probably who Ravage will turn out to be. As for whether he has had “history-shattering power” all along or receives it serendipitously by issue #1000 is anyone’s guess, though, and it would be difficult to predict why Cormac might turn to villainy in the first place.

Perhaps Cormac wishes to rewrite his own history after learning who his real parents are, with Peter then having to decide if this rewritten reality is the one he would prefer to call home. Snowballing further, if this granted Peter an opportunity to learn about a past he has no memory of, where he was married to Mary Jane Watson and the deal he made with Mephisto was not yet made, this milestone issue could be one of the most cherished and pivotal Spider-Man comics in the last couple of decades.

The Road To Amazing Spider-Man #1000 Is Paved

As of this writing, there are still seven issues until The Amazing Spider-Man #36/LGY #1000. That said, these comic solicitations have revealed what readers are in store for, and The Amazing Spider-Man #34 and #35 (LGY #998 and #999) seem to leave a lot to be desired in terms of a fulfilling throughline for the milestone issue.

Spider-Man will battle Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man #34 and Ghost-Spider in The Amazing Spider-Man #35. It is unknown what troubles Peter may be tackling on the side, but Damage Control appears to be more important and in need of his attention than whatever revelation is made in The Amazing Spider-Man #31.

Either way, readers have wanted to see the effects of Spider-Man’s “One More Day” storyline reversed for ages, and issue #1000 sneakily being the comic to finally make that actionable would be tremendously thrilling. Anything less will probably be met with disappointment, and yet it will be fun to see what Marvel has cooking in the oven with a batch of Spider-Man’s best writers and artists compiling their talents.

The Amazing Spider-Man #36/LGY #1000 is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2026.
