The Lord of the Rings fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few years, and it isn’t just the looming release of The Rings of Power Season 3, which is already confirmed for later this year on November 11. Last week, Warhorse Studios confirmed that it is actively developing a new open world Lord of the Rings video game that will allow players to explore all areas of Middle-earth. It’s still unclear at this time when the game will be released, but the confirmation that it’s in development is enough to have LOTR fans around the world excited. Tolkien heads will also return to theaters for a new live-action Lord of the Rings film next year, The Hunt for Gollum, which is opening alongside Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17.
Every Tokien fan has their favorite Lord of the Rings projects, and while most would agree that the original film trilogy from Peter Jackson would get the most votes, Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings project is always winning over fans around the world. The Rings of Power arrived with its first season in 2022, and Season 2 came just two years later, in 2024. While the series has not been officially greenlit beyond Season 3, news broke this afternoon that The Rings of Power Season 4 is in early development at Amazon. It’s even being reported that the studio is lining up an early 2027 date for filming to resume. It’s been confirmed that Amazon has plans for five seasons of The Rings of Power, and with Season 3 set to arrive later this year, the new Lord of the Rings story will be more than halfway finished.
