Quiz: Can You Match These ‘80s Sitcom Catchphrases to the TV Show?

Picture this: It’s the 1980s, and you’re getting ready for primetime TV. While there are some great dramas, sitcoms win for many people. Now, back to today: How many of these shows do you remember? Which catchphrases stand out the most for you even now? We have a quiz for that:

Did you manage to get 10/10? We know that we added in a British sitcom question there as well, just to throw you off a little. If you got all of them right, well done! If it was the British one that slipped you up, BritBox is the home for all the best British shows, including Only Fools and Horses and Blackadder.

Top U.S. Sitcoms From the 1980s

As you look back on the sitcoms of the past, you may wonder which ones are still ranking as popular choices. IMDb has given us a great list to work through.

This particular list has Mr. Belvedere in the No. 10 spot, which stars Christopher Hewett and Bob Uecker in a series about a British butler bringing his refined ways to a Pittsburgh family. Of course, that leads to about the amount of cultural clash chaos as you would imagine.

ALF ranks at No. 9, which was many people’s favorite thanks to just how adorably fuzzy the titular character was. Then in No. 8, it’s Growing Pains with Alan Thicke and Joanna Kerns.

Who’s the Boss?, which helped to put Alyssa Milano from Charmed on the map, comes in seventh place, and then we can’t forget about The Facts of Life, which is in sixth place. The Facts of Life did start in the 1970s, but only by a year, with most of its seasons running in the 1980s.

Starting out the top 5 is Diff’rent Strokes in No. 5, which ran between 1978 and 1986, and told the story of a millionaire who adopts two pre-teen boys and raised as his own. The Golden Girls then takes fourth place, and we all know that show needs no explanation!

Family Ties and Cheers take third and second place, respectively. The latter would go on to gain the spinoff Fraiser, which did arguably become a little more popular than the Ted Danson-led series.

In the top spot on this list is a show that has, unfortunately, aged poorly in the years since it aired, due to the lead actor’s sexual assault allegations: The Cosby Show.
