While we’re only a few months into 2026, the hair trends have already been fun and refreshing—from halo hair a lá Alysa Liu to choppy, textured crops thanks to Emma Chamberlain. Now, a new hair trend is joining the zeitgeist. Enter: Anastasia hair.
While the haircut is currently trending on TikTok and has been dubbed “Anastasia hair” after Anya from the 1997 movie Anastasia, the style previously went viral as a popular style from Korea. Also known as the Korean bob, the Anastasia haircut is essentially a two-in-one style.
“When your hair is down, it looks long, but when you pull the top half up into a bun, it creates the illusion of a bob,” Sky Barbarick, hair stylist at the Onee Salon in Los Angeles, tells Teen Vogue. The underlayer of the hair is cut at bob length, whereas the top half of the hair is longer, depending on personal preference. The cut is perfect if you can’t decide between long or short hair—you get the best of both worlds, as Hannah Montana likes to say.
That’s what Barbarick loves about this cut for her clients. “Bobs are having a huge moment right now, but committing to a bunch of length off can feel intimidating,” she says. “This cut lets you experiment with a bob without the permanence.”
Thinking about giving the cut a try? While Anastasia hair can truly work on any hair type or texture, Barbarick especially recommends it if you have denser, thicker hair. “It’s a fun, structural alternative to internal layers or thinning techniques,” she says.
When you head to the salon, Barbarick always suggests bringing a photo for your stylist, but you can also ask for a bob-length undercut. To do the cut, your stylist will likely begin by chopping the bottom layer hair straight across into a bob, then reassess once all of the hair is down to see how it blends. Her favorite tip to make the cut seamless? Connecting the face-framing layers to the bob layer to make it all come together. Chef’s kiss.
In terms of maintenance, the Anastasia haircut is surprisingly easy to upkeep; honestly, you likely won’t need to change how often you pay your salon a visit at all. How often you want to get the bob layer trimmed is up to you, but once you figure out the length you like, Barbarick suggests going in for a trim every eight weeks or so.
So, what are you waiting for? Mix it all together and you know that this chop is the best of both worlds.
