The Met Gala returned to New York City Monday night, which means America once again got its annual reminder that celebrities live on an entirely different planet than the rest of society.
The 2026 event featured the usual collection of millionaires arriving in outfits that looked less like fashion statements and more like deleted scenes from The Hunger Games.
But two stars in particular managed to steal the internet’s attention for all the wrong reasons.
Actress Sarah Paulson showed up wearing what appeared to be a dollar bill stretched across her face as part of a supposed statement about “The One Percent” being “blinded by money.”
Which is certainly an interesting message coming from someone reportedly worth around $12 million herself.
Nothing screams “fight the wealthy elite” quite like arriving at a luxury Manhattan fashion gala wearing designer clothing while posing for photographers in front of corporate sponsors.
The internet immediately noticed the irony.
Social media users roasted the actress for attempting anti-rich symbolism while attending one of the most famously exclusive celebrity events on Earth.
Because if there’s one thing average people totally relate to right now, it’s multimillionaires lecturing everyone about wealth inequality while walking red carpets worth more than most people’s mortgages.
And then there was Rachel Zegler.
The Snow White actress also went viral after cameras caught her making bizarre facial movements and contorting her jaw while posing on the red carpet.
Nobody online seemed entirely sure what expression she was attempting, but the clip spread fast anyway because the internet never misses an opportunity to turn awkward celebrity moments into memes.
At this point, the Met Gala barely even feels like a fashion event anymore.
It’s basically an annual competition to see who can generate the weirdest viral clip while dressed like an escaped art installation.
