Watch Out, Martha’s Vineyard: Apple TV Hit ‘Widow’s Bay’ Is Already Set for Season 2

Good news for fellow “Widow’s Bay” fans and freaks alike, we’re returning to the other Martha’s Vineyard for at least one more season. On Thursday, Apple TV today a Season 2 renewal for the streamer’s acclaimed series, led by Emmy Award-winning star and executive producer Matthew Rhys, which comes from creator and executive producer Katie Dippold and Emmy Award-winning executive producer and director Hiro Murai (and recent IndieWire Honors recipients, cough cough).

The news arrives just days before the highly anticipated Season 1 finale, which will premiere on the streamer on Wednesday, June 17. Additionally, Apple TV announced a new, multi-year overall deal with Dippold.

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV, in an official statement. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

Here at IndieWire, we’re big fans of the show already, naming it not just one of the best new series of the year so far, but one of the best series of 2026, full stop. So, where will Season 2 take us, Mayor Tom Loftis, and the rest of this wonderfully funny and spectacularly ill-fated island community?

“Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” said creator, showrunner, and executive producer Dippold in her own statement. (This, of course, must be read with a serious wink from Dippold.)

Just last week, Dippold and Murai accepted this season’s IndieWire Honors Visionary Award for their work on the show. And, in a deep-dive interview with the pair, both teased what a second season might look like.

“I feel like there’s just so much, the whole show is the ensemble, and there’s so many characters that I would love to see more of,” Murai said. “I just think it’ll be a thicker soup, a thicker stew [if we get a] next season.” Dippold added with a smile, “I think there’s a lot of fun to be had, I will say, if we can do it.”

“Widow’s Bay” stars Rhys alongside Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll and Dale Dickey. The supporting cast includes K Callan and Emmy Award winner Jeff Hiller. Hailing from Apple Studios, “Widow’s Bay” is created, showrun, and executive produced by Dippold. Murai executive produces through his banner Chum Films alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin and Rhys. Murai directed five episodes in the first season, with the other episodes in the season directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.
