I’m working in a hotel. Some guests arrive just after midnight.
Guest: “We have a booking for today.”
I check the system.
Me: “Sorry, but it appears you have a booking for tomorrow.”
Guest: “No, that’s wrong. We booked to stay on the seventh. It’s the seventh.”
Me: “Well, yes, as of two minutes ago the date is the seventh, but that’s not how it works when you book a hotel. You have a check-in time.”
Guest: “Well, we’re here now, so give us our room keys.”
Me: “I can’t do that; we have no rooms available.”
Guest: “What does that mean?! We need a room!”
Me: “Guests are sleeping in those rooms until they check out in the morning.”
Guest: “But we’re here now! They need to leave!”
Me: “Sir, you booked a room for the seventh and only the seventh. Does this mean that tomorrow at midnight we should be asking you to pack up your items and leave in the middle of the night?”
Guest: “…”
Me: “…”
Guest: “This is terrible service! It should be made clear if you have a strange policy like that!”
