Louisville’s Jeff Brohm, Head Coach, watches everyone in football practice at the Trager Center.
March 17, 2026 Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm agreed to an eight-year, $64.8 million contract extension Thursday that runs through the 2033 season.
The University of Louisville Athletic Association Board of Directors approved the deal for Brohm, who will receive an annual base salary that starts at $6.3 million and scales upward each season to $8.7 million in 2032.
Brohm, who turns 55 on Friday, guided the Cardinals to their second straight 9-4 record last season in addition to a win in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Louisville native is 28-12 during his first three seasons at his alma mater.
“This extension reflects the dedication and commitment of our players and staff,” Brohm said. “We’ve made meaningful progress the past three seasons, and we look forward to continuing to pursue higher goals. We are committed to putting in the work that is necessary to consistently compete for championships and play an exciting brand of football. We are proud of where we are but even more excited for the future that lies ahead.”
Brohm reportedly had been linked to the job openings at Penn State, Michigan and Florida at times last season.
“Over the past three seasons, Jeff has clearly demonstrated that he is the right person to lead our football program, now and into the future,” said Josh Heird, vice president/director of athletics. “He understands what it means to represent the University of Louisville on the field and in this community. Jeff is building a culture rooted in accountability, development, and competitive excellence. I am confident in the direction of our program and excited about what the future holds under his leadership.”
If Brohm leaves before Dec. 31, 2027, he would owe the school $3 million. The number drops to $1 million after that. If he is fired without cause before Dec. 31, 2029, the university would owe him 90% of his total remaining salary.
Brohm originally signed a six-year deal with Louisville in December 2022.
He is 94-56 overall including stints at Western Kentucky (2014-16) and Purdue (2017-22). His teams are 7-2 in bowl games.

Michael Carrick said he loves managing Manchester United but is not “chasing” an answer on his future as the club closes in on a Champions League spot.
United’s former midfielder was appointed as head coach until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s acrimonious exit in January.
Carrick has masterminded wins against Manchester City and Arsenal during an impressive spell that has lifted United to third in the Premier League.
But he still has no clarity on his future.
“I’ve said it many times, I enjoy being here, I enjoy the role I’m in,” Carrick said on Thursday, ahead of Monday’s home match against Brentford.

“We’ve had some good results and we’re in decent shape. I think there’s a lot (of the season) to go, we still want to keep improving, there’s layers that we want to get to, really. I’ll see, you know.
“I keep saying the same things every week. There’s only so much I can say in terms of that, but I’ve said it many times.
“Again, I enjoy being here, I love being here. It’s a real privilege to be in the position I am but thriving with the responsibility that we’ve got.”
The former England international, 44, said he was unsure when he would get clarity over his future.
“Genuinely it’s not something in terms of deadlines that I’m really chasing. I think it’ll become clear when it’s going to become clear.”

US President Donald Trump told the BBC on Thursday that British King Charles’ coming state visit to the United States could “absolutely” help rebuild strained ties between the two countries.
Charles heads to the US on Monday for a four-day trip, with transatlantic tensions over the Iran war and scandals linked to the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein threatening to intrude on the landmark visit.
Asked by the BBC whether Charles’s visit could help repair the relationship between the US and UK, Trump told the BBC: “Absolutely. He’s fantastic. He’s a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes.”
Charles will be making his first state visit to the US as a monarch, at the request of the UK government and Trump.
He will travel to the US with Queen Camilla and then visit Bermuda alone.

Trump has harshly criticised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not joining the US-Israeli war on Iran, launched on February 28.

Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey on Thursday made it clear that whenever MS Dhoni returns from his calf strain, he will resume duties as a wicketkeeper and not feature merely as an impact player.
The 44-year-old missed his seventh straight game in IPL 2026 in Thursday’s clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, as he continues to recover from the injury that initially ruled him out for two weeks on March 28.
There had been speculation that Dhoni could return as a specialist batter using the Impact Player rule, especially with Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma available as wicketkeeping options.
However, Hussey dismissed that possibility, indicating Dhoni would be back in his usual role behind the stumps.
“Oh, I’m pretty sure he’ll be behind the stumps. The biggest thing for him is that he’s had the calf injury, it’s just the running and late in innings, if he comes in, having to scamper those ones and twos, he just needs to make sure the calf is strong enough to withstand that,” Hussey told the broadcaster during a mid-match interview.
“But certainly from a skill perspective, we know what he can do as a keeper. We know he’s batting, he’s batting really well, so it’s just hopefully getting that confidence in the calf,” Hussey added.

Dhoni’s absence has remained a constant talking point around CSK matches.
At the toss ahead of its Mumbai Indians game, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the void, saying, “all thanks to the legend (Dhoni) who is not here unfortunately” while referring to the crowd reception.
Although he has been out longer than expected, Dhoni offered a glimpse of his progress by keeping wickets in the nets on the eve of the match, his first such session this season, but was again not included in the playing XI, having now missed half of CSK’s games.
Giving an update about Dhoni, Hussey said he is improving but not yet match-ready.
“Yeah, he’s progressing really well. I know he’s pushing hard to get back as quickly as he possibly can. I know all the fans want to see MS Dhoni out there playing as well. So we’re hopeful maybe in the next few games. We want him back as quickly as he possibly can as well,” Hussey said.
“But obviously, he needs to be close to 100 per cent ready to give his best. Because he’s been batting well on the nets. He looks good in the nets. Just needs to run hard between the wickets too,” he added.
CSK next faces Gujarat Titans in Chennai on Sunday.
