Sooo Not Ready For The Internet, Part 21

I worked in an Internet support team back in the dial-up days. Our customers would be sent our custom CD with Netscape on it.

Caller: “Hi, yeah, I got your Internet CD.”

Me: “That’s great! Do you need assistance with the install and setup?”

Caller: “Ah, no, I did all that. I put all the Internet from the CD onto the computer. I’m just wondering when you’re sending the next one.”

Me: “I’m sorry, sir, what do you mean by next one?”

Caller: “I got last month’s Internet. When do I get this month’s Internet?”

Me: “I’m sorry, sir, I’m still not following. You have Netscape installed on your computer, and you’re able to access websites, yes?”

Caller: “Yes, but I already saw all of last month’s websites. I want to see this month’s. Why am I paying monthly but not getting each issue?”

Me: “Issue? Like a magazine?”

Caller: “That’s what I’m paying for, ain’t it?”

I get him to go to the Chicago Tribune website and confirm that he was looking at articles written today.

Caller: “Oh, so I already got new Internet? But you only sent me one CD!”

Me: “The CD is just the software to run the Internet. The Internet comes through your phone line and is always updating.”

Caller: “I don’t know what any of that means. Can you just tell me if I already got this month’s Internet?”

Me: “…yes.”

Caller: “Good!” *Click.*
