I will never forget the stupidest conversation I have ever had to endure. I’m checking in a seemingly very nice couple at our beach resort hotel.

Woman: “Now, what ocean is that out there?”

Me: “That is the Atlantic Ocean, ma’am.”

Woman: “So… if I wanted to see the Pacific?”

Me: “I… don’t understand the question.”

Man: “Florida is a thin state. The Atlantic is one side, so the Pacific is the other. How far is that drive?”

Me: “Well, the I75 will take you to the other side of Florida from here. It’s just over a two-hour drive to Naples, but that’s not the Pacific. That’s the Gulf of Mexico.”

Man: “Are you an idiot?! I said I wanted to drive to the Pacific, not f****** Mexico!”

Another guest standing nearby decides to save me:

Other Guest: “You’re the idiot! It would be quicker to drive to Mexico than to the f****** Pacific! Don’t swear at this nice lady just because your geography sucks!”

What made this whole thing even stranger is that this couple had flown in from… California.
